Fire-Fighter Stu

I’ve always wanted to be a fire fighter. I guess probably never seriously, but the whole “helping people” thing is pretty engraned in me. So anywho - I was running down the canal this evening, and just 1 mile into my run, i look over and this pile of rolled up carpets is on fire. I am thinking to myself, some idiot is trying to burn his garbage uncontained. What a SILLY thing to do. So i am assessing this thing to see if it will contain itself, but my instinct tells me something isn’t right. The flames are now about 5 or so feet in the air, right next to the kitchen window of the council estate appartment, right next to the front door.

I hop the railing, and bang on the door. This lady, probably in her late 60s early 7os, in walker, on oxygen no less, answers from her lazy-boy chair. she lets me in and i tell her to call the fire dept. i ask her for a fire extinguisher,… she doenst have one. so i look out in the garden, and she has a hose. i throw it over the fence and turn it on. SO i here i am dousing this flame which is now more like 7 or 8 feet tall. (*with my mini hose) (interesting) Yes, so anyhow, a guy came by and called the fire dept as well, and they arrived 12 mns later. *(pretty good for inner city ghetto London!)

It was still smoldering so i wasnt comfortable leaving. The fire had stained the brick with smoke, and had cracked the kitchen window, not to mention melting the extractor fan in the kitchen. The house smelt rank. I left after the fire doods got there. I did my run loop and on my way back i stopped and talked to them again. They congratulated me and i felt all warm and fuzzy inside, and they awarded me with the London Gold Medal of Courage and then i had an interview with the mayor and then i got invited to Big Brothe….. —- sorry. yeah, so i went home. all in a day’s work i guess!

i have to thank God daily for the small things in life. How sweet.

the rain in Spain falls mainly in the plain

ever been peed on by A VERY LARGE RAIN CLOUD?

That is what happened to me today.
Look at these:

ze rain just before it hits me... let me tell you, i havent felt a torrential downpour like this one since i was in Malaysia with H last year!!!

it was plain ugly!!!

So i had 30mns of biking back to the car in the rain - it was probably the BEST 30mns of biking ive had this year. i felt like a committed cyclist!!!! I was TOTALLY PUMPED UP. heehee! :) Seriously though, I could barely open my eyes the rain was very horizontal! My eyes stung the rest of the day.

Oh - and here is a recent pic of me racing in the tour de france… in case you missed it.. i won that time trial. :)

In my quest to become british (not really) I have acquired some new shoes. I found them on eastbay back in May, and HAD to have them. Today, i am proudly wearing them!

CHEKK IT - new photos!

Hi all. Just figured out how to add photo pages to my site. This will eventually be better designed, but for the time being, it will give everyone a great opportunity to see more images from us and what has been going on!

so please take a look at the navigation part of the page (the right hand side of each page, where the links are - look for the “pages” sub-heading, and there you will see all the different photo pages! If you cant find it - just go here.

Rope swinging on the Ohi’a!

A quick apology first of all for not posting. I need to get more disciplined about this. Erg. Anyhow. I’m back and have lots to tell! (not all tonight, I am too tired)
We are back from the states! We flew to Evansville and then over to Tell City for the wonderful wedding of Chris and Kelly. We were very excited and very ready to, after a frustrating (and a bit shaky) incident with a contact in the area. I plan on doing a wedding blog so look out -
Anyhow, cool things that happened to us:
I chopped off almost all the hair! YES. i cant believe it. I knew it was coming… it was about 6 months in the coming actually… i just could never bring myself around to actually DOING it. :) BUT now it is done. ye new cut We also travelled 2.5 hours to Tennessee to get my driver’s license renewed. (Yeay again) I was long overdue, and got fined for renewing after it expired, but man am i glad i got it done. it has been 9 years since i had a new license. The photo is a scan off of my license actually. what do you think?

So what all did we do, other than the wedding, you might be asking? Hmm…. not a whole lot.
Played a bunch of bball with the boys - Chris has a group of at least 10 guys who have all grown up together in TC. Its an awesome group and they are very close. They have played ball all their lives as well, so its always good fun, something in common, something relaxing to enjoy together. I really only had a good session on the final day, we played, July 4th. Even hit the winning 3 pointer to end the game. I was a happy boy.

What else what else — oh yes - We also watched lots of Sports Center. If you dont know
Sports Center, then you are not from the States. I think you could almost say that SC is to young men these days, as horses are to cowboys. You don’t often get one without the other. Its amazing. I forgot how much Chris used to watch it. I probably spent at least 5 hours watching SC while i was there. heehee.

Tell City is a little town of 8′000 people. The type of place people dreamof living in. The doors to their houses arent locked durign the day. The keys to the car… you guessed it - can be left in the car. No one will steal it. I have even seen wallets with cash, and cards inside, left in the car, in plain view, without any stress or even a second thought. Its a small town, and every one (so far as i can see) respects the small town-y-ness of it.

So. This is just a taster -
Did i want to stay? yes. Did I want to purchase a house there? yes. Did i talk with Hollinden Reality owner Tony? yes. *note Hollinden is the last name of my best friend Chris whom i went to see.

But hey, one day, right!? For now, I am happy where I am at. Even though one has to deal with the occasional bomb. Lots of love to all.
