It is Autumn. Harriet and I crawled out of bed this morning for our our Thursday morning prayer meeting to the sound of rain… Harriet said, “Well… It’s Autumn.” I said, “Yup, I think you are right.”
In London, there is usually a rain storm which cools things off, once and for all, until the following spring. I have big doubts that we will get over 20 C again this year. Very unfortunate.
But with the start of Autumn, (this year almost 2 weeks late) comes new and exciting challeges. We are in 5th gear now - Late evenings and extra hours: it’s the “start” of the new year. With Alpha starting at church, and a plethora of other programmes to either vision-cast, develop or sustain, there is never a dull moment! To do this work you need not only confidence, you need boldness; something I feel God has been teaching me about in a big way.
One of the most profound things I have been considering recently was a statement made by a friend of mine, Peter Kendrick:
“A leader is someone who people follow.”
I am conviced that this statement will only strike true leaders. A leader must be leading people. Not only must he be leading, but he must also be going somewhere. When a leader looks inside himself, it is always a deep challenge to soberly consider the answers to these questions. It has helped me refocus. Thanks Peter.
Harriet is doing very well.
