MobileASL

What if you damaged your hearing and couldn’t use a cell phone anymore? What about the millions of people who are deaf or hard of hearing? If you were one of them, would you want to use a mobile phone? I would!!

This is an amazing initiative!!!

Tech articles worth your time

Have or dream of having a digital camera? (cmon… tell the truth now) … very worth a read. Don’t listen to the hype…make the right decision. This article discusses the “megapixel myth”.

I would also recommend this article, but read it with a grain of salt. He isn’t a professional columnist like our previous author David Pogue is! He does know his camera though.

Use public hotspots? Think your emails or what websites you visit are safe from prying eyes? Read this:

Also, if you are interested in the impact of web 2.0 concepts like flikr, youtube etc… watch this vodcast (or podcast) (or google video) (depending on your flavor) from the 2007 World Economic Forum.

One of those days

Have you ever had a day where you were sprinting from the moment you got up until the moment you went to bed? Yesterday was one of those days for me! LABELME Education has been moving ahead with over 45 people who have registered some sort of interest, and approximately 20 who are signed up and ready to tutor. Our client base is slowly growing and we are excited about the direction things are taking.

We are looking for a PHP developer who is interested in building an educational hub (*either as a Joomla 1.5 add-on or some other web-based open source community add-on). The idea is to integrate the clients information, the parents information, and the Tutees work, observations and reviews, as well as payment information into one secure area, with each person given the write access they require. eg - a tutor may log into his area, and see all of his clients, fill out reflections on previous meeting, and check total hours worked. He may upload documents or resources he wants to share with his client(s). The parents may log into their area and see all information about their child (or in the case where the client is an adult) themselves. Tutors and parents can see their financial statements, relating to the specific contract they have with LABELME. The LABELME staff have administrative access to view all pages. We are hoping to make it simple to set up new contracts with tutors, new contracts with clients, provide downloadable PDFs for financial statements and tutor observations, as well as avoid duplicates if the same tutee comes back to be tutored a 2nd or 3rd time, or if they want tutoring in another subject. If you know someone who could do this, I would be most interested in speaking with them!

Anyhow, back to work. We are both alive and kicking. Love to all of you, especially Dad and Karen who have recently moved!!! I really cannot believe it!
